Tonight I am wondering some stuff.
Like, why, sometimes, when I bump my lamp, does the lightbulb suddenly go supernova–shining extraordinarily bright for a fortnight before burning out entirely? Is this something I should be concerned about? Is immolation imminent?
Alliteration. Heh.
I’m also wondering why my socks get holes in them so quickly. Does everyone wear through a pair of socks after only two donnings? Or are my heels truly that corrosive?
Is donnings a word?
Why is Chitty Chitty Bang Bang so damn long? And Dr. Doolittle? And Hot Wheels: Highway 35, World Race?
We don’t own Dr. Doolittle anymore (the old version with that guy who sings every song without actually singing, that is. not the new one with eddie murphy. although we don’t own the eddie murphy version either because it’s just plain gross.). I got tired of that guy with the Irish accent and all his weird shrugging. He gave me nightmares.
Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, however, we do have. Because I love Dick Van Dyke and I’m not ashamed to admit it.
Why is Dick Van Dyke so smokin’ hot even though he’s like 649 years old?
By the way, did you know that CCBB (I got tired of typing it out) was written by the same guy who wrote all the James Bond books? That’s why the girl in CCBB is named Truly Scrumptious.
Why is Gone With The Wind considered a great romance?
Why am I the only one in the world who has not seen High School Musical yet?
Why doesn’t my sister read my blog?
Why does no one think they are rich, no matter how rich they get? I have known some pretty stinkin rich people, but they all consider themselves middle-income folks.
Why won’t my baby just poop, already?
Why isn’t Oklahoma a coastal state?
Why do I pass out at the sight of blood? Would I pass out at the sight of blood if it were blue? Or green?
Why does it cost so much to eat healthy?
Are aliens from other planets out to exterminate us, as in Independance Day, or do they wish to help us, as in Starman? Why are the ones who are out to help us so patronizing?
And finally…
What in tarnation is this all about?
I look forward to your help with these troubling issues.

You aren’t the only person who hasn’t seen High School Musical yet. I haven’t, either, nor do I have any plans to.
My socks last for a long time and only wear out when I go outside frequently without shoes. Perhaps you should buy a Ped Egg to soften your heels if they’re truly that rough???
I also own CCBB and enjoy Dick Van Dyke. You’re not alone there, though I don’t think he’s smokin’ hot.
No idea why your baby won’t poop. You can always give him some diluted apple or prune juice to hasten things along. If he is truly constipated, Fletcher’s Laxative (over the counter, natural senna laxative ~ ie: not habit-forming) is great stuff. Root beer flavored, works within about 6 hours and a little bit is all that’s needed (we use it as part of Joshua’s bowel program every day).
No idea why Gone With the Wind is considered a great romance. Ashley Wilkes is such a wimp and Scarlet O’Hara was a shrew.
No idea about your other questions. LOL The statue was great for a double-take and a laugh, though!
I have seen Highschool Musical and I feel like I’m in the smallest of all minorities when I say that I didn’t like it at all. So I never saw the other two. Gosh, I can’t believe I just admitted that on the internet. Now I have to be wary of death threats.
I don’t know why it’s so expensive to eat healthy. I was just asking myself that question yesterday at the grocery store when I was buying fruit to make green smoothies and I couldn’t bring myself to pay over three dollars for frozen blueberries. I wanted to throw in the towel and just go pick up a box of macaroni and cheese for 75 cents. Uugh, it’s so frustrating.
I wear holes in my socks way too quickly also. It is such a relief to find out I am not the only one. I have never seen HSM, nor do I want to. I am surprised at your blood issue – you always seem way tougher than I am. I totally don’t “get” why everyone loves Gone with the Wind. Baby X and the poop problem – my mom swears by glycerin suppositories, but they are really gross. Sorry to be no real help with your troubling issues.
You are not alone…I haven’t seen High School Musical either…and I have no desire to see it. And thanks for clarifying the reason behind Truly’s name. I always wondered about that!
Jenni-
Hmm…count me in on not seeing High School Musical either…
Seems you have a lot to ponder…that statue is a bit perplexing to say the least.
We got our court date for our Ethiopian adoption…would you rally with us in prayer?
Kimmie
mama to 6
one homemade and 5 adopted
I haven’t seen HSM – and probably won’t (although, I’m actually quite the enjoyer of musicals).
Oh- and I don’t like Gone with the Wind, either — it’s not all that romantic (but you already said that) and Scarlet whines too much!
As for rich people — I wish I knew — I guess because it is always possible to have more, and we live in a society that programs us to focus on possibilities and accumulating stuff . . . so we never really feel rich. (but – FWIW all the really rich people I’ve ever known were not very happy). Maybe no one wants to admit they are rich because then the parable of the rich young ruler would apply to them?/
Love imponderables!! Have you ever read the imponderables books?
Okay, I had to comment, simply because I have some of the same questions!!!
The light bulb thing is strange, no answers from me.
The sock thing, STOP wearing them outside, as soon as I screech at a child for doing this, AGAIN, I suddenly find myself running down the street chasing the dog, grinding the bottom of my socks off on the concrete. Or maybe in your case, it’s just a sock monster that chews on them.
Love CCBB, but every time the kids insist we let is holiday at our house from the library, the poor thing has to sleep in the car, since the child snatcher is still too scary to stay in the house. My oldest is 12, so this frightens me that I’ve over-sheltered just a little. But they have seen HSmusical and I wish we had skipped it.
As for GWTW, I bought it for 99 cents because, well its a classic. Got all cozy and let the tape run. UGH!!! It was “reading Moby Dick because it’s a classic” all over again. Never watched it again. I thing Scarlet needs some abuse counseling.
The reason your sister doesn’t read it, must be the same reason my mom doesn’t read mine. I asked this very question yesterday (out loud) and she shrugged and said, “I don’t know.” HMMM! Maybe I need counseling.
I’ll put rich people, pooping and eating healthy into the same musing. Well, because the answers are undiscoverable.
As for Oklahoma, when we lived in OC, it wasn’t the sea I wondered about but “THAT WIND!!!!” You should have an ocean near by, it’s just not fair!
Oh, the blood question. Before kids, I was made of steel, I could have chewed my own arm off and crawled to a hospital. But with the hormonal changes of squeezing kids from my body, I did not become a nurse but a patient. I accidently cut my firstborn’s finger with scissors when he was 6 months old (a stupid moment story) and he screamed, blood dripped and the next thing I knew I was waking up with him sitting on me bouncing me awake. It’s the hormones, I’m sure!
As for aliens, I’m sure I have a couple living here (pre-teen boys) so if I figure out what they want maybe they will release us from captivity! Oh, the day of freedom is only 30 or 40 years away!
Now, I ask myself. What does all THAT mean? Have a glorious Saturday!
Gabe
I think the last one is obvious — clearly that is HIGH ART! Don’t worry, we haven’t seen “High School Musical” either and I thought CCBB was TERRIFYING as a child.
Yes, I knew Ian Fleming wrote both CCBB and James Bond.
No idea why GWTW is considered a great romance. I like the historical aspect of it, but how can the movie be considered a romance when the couple doesn’t end up together in the end?
I haven’t seen HSM yet (any of them).
That statue reminds me of the headless horseman. Weird!
Good questions.
I discovered that Ian Fleming wrote CCBB this summer, and was similarly surprised. But it does explain Truly Scrumptious.
I have never seen nor plan to see any of the HSM movies. This is probably because I don’t have any girls. If I ever were to have a girl (in the back of my mind the hope is always there!) I would probably start watching those types of movies. BTW I have never seen Hannah Montana anywhere other than the toy shelves at WalMart, and sale ads.
When you bump the light you damage the filament which makes it harder for the electricity to get through. More resistance means more of the energy is used getting through the filament which makes the light brighter. My husband answered that – it’s all Greek to me. And it probably doesn’t help with your question.
CCBB IS long! We check it out of the library now and again, but are not big fans.
Add me to the list of haven’t seen HSM, don’t like GWTW and sister not reading my blog.
Have a great day.
I have not seen High School Musical either! Gone With The Wind is far from a romance in my book I was totally disappointed with the ending! My best friend does not read my blog. I hate socks, so I have no idea how fast one gets wholes or why, now my kids are always ruining their socks because they wear them outside without shoes….
One of my former neighbors loved CCBB so much- her (now 18 year old) daughter is named Truly Scrumptious.
For real.
I met Truly when she and my #5 child began kindergarten together. At the time, I was clueless about her middle name… and as her Mom and I became friends, I asked why she had named her DD “Truly”.
It was because of the movie.
I really didn’t believe the kid was REALLY named Truly Scrumptious… but she is- honest to God.
I have no room to laugh… my DD named her firstborn son Tyrel Ruger. (Tyrel from a Louis L’Amour book, Ruger from the firearm manufacturer.)
I think Dick Van D is appealing because he still has a full head of hair!! What do you think? I also love him in Mary Poppins and Diagnosis Murder! I havn’t seen the Dr Doolittle movie but the books are great=) Take care Jenni
I love you.
Simply love you.
My hand is raised here also–I have not seen HSM and don’t have any plans to. Your sister has no idea what she is missing. And I have to agree….it is expensive to try to eat healthy.
The statue is the absent father, isn’t it?
I’ve seen HSM 1 and 2. Too much lovey-dovey for my taste. You’re not missing anything. No, I do not plan to see the 3rd. I saw 1 and 2 b/c I saw 2 first and felt cheated and thought maybe seeing 1 would clear that up. Nope.
GWTW is considered a great romance b/c “we” are supposed to always want what we can’t have and lust after the “bad boy”. @@
Take the baby’s temperature, rectally.
Move to Texas.
It costs so much to eat healthy because you live in OK. Move to TX. No, that won’t help, but we could commensurate about it then.
I also have not seen HSM.
That statue is freaky..or freaking funny..take your pick.
Totally off topic though, how is Rose doing? How is the pregnancy progressing along? When is your first grandbaby due??
CCBB and Dr. Dolittle were both made during and era when people still had attention spans. I don’t know why the other one is so long. Maybe it isn’t but you get caught in some sort of testosterone vortex while watching it.
I haven’t seen High School Musical yet either. I can’t help you with the statue. And our socks, miraculously enough, do not get holes at the same rate as yours, apparently. No, you’re not the only one who thinks Dick Van Dyke is smokin’ hot. I’m a huge fan myself.
That was completely out of order, but that’s what you get when I’m functioning on brain overload.
No to HSM, Dick Van Dyke made us laugh – we all love men who made us laugh – statue looks like a British version of a fancy garbage receptable (where the guy’s head should have been) socks just aren’t tough enough for a working woman’s feet and what else – oh the lightbulb thing – use those twisty fluorescent ones and that won’t happen. Whew – only thing I’ve been able to adequately respond to all day – I’m no longer incomplete.
Crud – I totally ignore the baby poop and GWTW – babies like to hoard their poop sometimes then expel it when you are wearing something light colored or needs drycleaning (this from a childless woman you understand) and GWTW was written to appeal to women who were self centered and spoiled – realizing too late what real love is – so that’s why you don’t get it – ’cause you aren’t.
All you have to do to realize how’ rich you are (in America) is to sponsor a Compassion child! For example, do you walk 100 yards a day to get water for your family? When I think of the decisions Americans have made, it confuses me how rich we are.
I’ve never seen HSM. Wasn’t Dick Van Dyke spry in Night at the Museum!? He did all his own “stunts” (running up and down the stairs, etc.).
I will confess that I have seen HSM, and although insipidly sweet, it wasn’t all that bad…and I only watched it on a boring day and the kiddoes were sitting with me and we were laughing and laughing…
the statue makes me think of big cogs in the machinery of bureaucracies with the little guy at the top the figurative power head
DVD hot, not so much, but I still respect your opinions on most other things, hahahahah
Baby will poop some loud, squelchy monstrosity that probably stinks to high heaven in the middle of church…smile…
that is all my brain remembers for now…oh…sister not reading blog…lots of people aren’t into blogging…period…you can’t interest them no matter what…I think it is a purist thing like not drinking pop….
I’m guessing that the first 59 questions were just a setup for the statue. Do you *really* think DvD is smokin’ hot? Cuz I really just want to know more about that statue. I’m going to be seeing that in some weird dreams if I don’t get an answer and dismiss the thing from my thoughts.
Although I would like to know about the sister thing, because only 1 or 2 of my 10 sisters read my blog. I’m right in there with you.
Rest assured, you are not the only person who has not seen high school musical. I am with you on that point.
After finally seeing Gone with the wind last year sometime, I wanted my three-four hours back. I too wondered what in the world people found so great in that movie and why It was considered a great romance story. I felt bad to think this way….because I feel I am in the minority-and almost considered watching it once more just in case I missed out on something….almost-meaning’it’s not going to happen LOL
CCBB is so long b/c I need something that long to chill the kids out once in a while.
I haven’t seen high school musical either. Don’t plan on it.
Truly Scrumptious. Yes, definitely a Bond Girl name…
This is awesome! I have my own little list of questions I’m working on. But my brain didn’t go quite this deep.
