1000 Gifts

Shewt, I’m way behind in posting these…it is testimony to His great benevolence that the blessings flow so thick and fast that it is difficult to keep up.

Yet record I will, for I know how quickly I descend into the muck of ingratitude when I don’t take the time to stop and see, to offer up the honor that is all His anyway.

Sometimes I think I hear the sound of the rocks, clearing their throats. The world seethes in discontent, but may the stones stay silent a little longer, as long as we are here to sing His praises!

1,000 Gifts

I’m joining my sweet friend Ann in a deliberate, methodical tallying of the many daily gifts the Lord liberally sprinkles throughout my days. The idea, of course, is that by taking note of them, I will begin to lose my sowish hooves that regularly trample such pearls before even recognizing them.

My “Happy” posts were the beginning of the conviction that such an idea is not just worthwhile, but deeply necessary if I am to keep my eyes focused upward and off the muddy turmoil of this earthly barnyard. And so I begin to number the bright orbs that cover the grit and grime of daily life, to string them one by one upon the threads of my days in the hopes that I may remember to drape each prayer request with thanks.

My list begins with memories from my recent visit home to hold the fort…

1. Sunrise, 6am. My old friend, the sun, warms me with his faithful arrival and offers unmistakeable metaphor for the One who never fails to dispel the dark.

2, 3, 4, and 5: His Word; challenging, cheering, changing me…A reminder to open mouth in praise…A cup full of ambition…The broad back porch of my childhood, with a fresh morning breeze full of promise…

6. A sweet early riser along with me, alone with his thoughts (no electronics to distract from contemplation)…

7. A blissfully UNearly riser, snoozing long enough to let me drink coffee while it’s hot…

8. Who just happens to have some incredibly smoochable feet…

9. A cooling rain that scrubs the sky clean and new…

10, 11, & 12.  The country road that leads to home, the sunset that bids the day well-lived, and some quiet moments to reflect…

“He is good”…the breeze whispers…and I choose to believe it. Choose to cling to it. Choose gratitude. Thank You, Lord, for my life.
